The Best Pilates Studio in Houston
Let’s be honest.. Pilates is expensive. Coming from Malaysia, where my gym offered unlimited gym access + unlimited reformer classes for RM450 or USD100 / month to living in a place where studios cost USD 180 for five classes was shocking. Why is reformer so pricey? And so my research begins. I was on the hunt for the best studio in Houston. What constitutes the best for me? Price, Classes, Trainers, Schedule, Location, Commute to the studio.
I enrolled in Classpass to get a feel on the studio & classes. I went to 3 different studios before I found the ONE. It’s IM=X Pilates. This place is on Waugh Drive, nestled right in the active Montrose neighborhood. If you're looking for a place to sweat it out and have a blast, this is it!
First Impressions
Walking into IM=X Pilates feels like entering a modern, friendly space full of good vibes. The staff greets you with big smiles, making you feel welcome from the get-go. Whether you're an early bird or like to work out later, their hours from 6 AM to 8 PM make it easy to fit a session into your day.
What’s the Buzz About?
IM=X Pilates is short for Integrated Movement Xercize, and it really shakes up the regular Pilates routine. They mix Pilates with some strength training and cardio, giving you a full-body workout that's both fun and challenging. This method, created by a smart exercise pro named Elyse McNergney, is all about getting stronger and improving how you hold yourself (like, no more slouching!). I remember talking to Dana, one of the instructors in IM=X Houston, and she said one of the reasons why she joined IM=X is because of the founder’s story. The founder used to be a dancer until she got injured, and pilates was her way of coping and strengthening, pushing your body to the best it can without sacrificing the posture or furthering the injury. I relate to that so much as I also injured my shoulder from a car accident & an elevator accident, I have bad lower back posture, and I couldn’t lift weights the way I used to.
My Free Intro Session
I started with a free intro session on their special IM=X Xercizer, which is like a supercharged Pilates reformer. Their springs are heavier than the usual reformer. This machine helps you do everything from leg presses to bicep curls and can be adjusted depending on your fitness level. The footbar, shoulder pads, and handles are all adjustable according to your height & how heavy you want to challenge yourself. Kristin Schlinkert, our amazing instructor, made sure I knew what to do and kept the class fun and engaging. I was pushing my limits, but it felt great! Oh, and she even made us try jumpboard. Cardo + pilates in one!
Friendly Faces and Fun Classes
The people at IM=X are what make it special. There are classes for everyone, whether you’re new to Pilates or a pro. Everyone is so supportive, cheering each other on, and the energy in the room is just awesome. I have joined the classes of Kristin, Dana (love her! I’m a 12pm class staple), and Jackie for upper body. They pushed me to my limits yet corrected when I’m hyperextending parts of my body incorrectly. They also have regular community activities such as lunch, buddy passes, and according to an insider scoop, there are member surprises coming the next few months too.
What Do Others Think?
The reviews speak for themselves—IM=X Pilates has a perfect 5.0 rating on google! People can’t stop talking about how friendly the staff is, how effective the workouts are, and how welcoming the whole place feels. Comments like “Great instructor, great class, loved the atmosphere!” are pretty common. One of the members I talked with mentioned she left a positive review on IM=X on her trial month because of how welcoming the studio is.
They also offer grip socks for purchase or you can borrow them. They are that nice! No cost to borrow socks you see! And they are the cutest too, but make your toes look jumbo. LOL!
How Much Does It Cost?
They are affordable & you can take unlimited classes! I got the 3 months package paid in full, which is USD178 per month. In most studios, this price will only get you 5 classes or less! Here’s the scoop on prices:
Monthly Unlimited for Founding Members: $215
12 Months Paid in Full: $1598
6 Months Paid in Full: $924
3 Months Paid in Full: $534
Elite Membership (Month to Month): $455
1 Month Trial for Newbies: $179
You can purchase membership OR book your free session here. You can find them on Mindbodyonline or ClassPass.
Why You Gotta Try It
If you’re looking to switch up your workout, practice your breathing, challenge yourself to slow, controlled movements, and get results , IM=X Pilates in Houston is where you want to be. The unlimited package sealed the deal for me too. Plus, it’s a women-owned spot, adding an empowering vibe to the whole experience.
Location wise? It’s in a little strip mall where you can get nails done downstairs, have a slice of pizza, or a sip of thai milk tea with tons of restaurant options. Whole Foods is across the street. Cafes are everywhere for a post-workout sip. I love how accessible it is.
Final Thoughts
IM=X Pilates & Fitness has really been a game-changer for me. Price, Classes, Trainers, Schedule, Location, Commute to the studio — all ticked the boxes. I’ve felt stronger, more confident, and I’ve loved pushing myself in new ways. If you’re in Houston or just visiting, definitely swing by and check it out. You’ll find more than just a workout—you’ll find a community ready to welcome you with open arms.
