La Vita Coffee Houston – Best Breakfast Burrito & Coffee in Washington Ave Review
Every time we drive by Washington Avenue in Houston, we always see this cafe/burger joint that always seems to be quiet but had amazing reviews on Google. One day, we finally stopped by and tried it, and it’s been our staple every time we’re in the area.
Tucked into the Washington Ave corridor, La Vita Coffee blends Italian-style coffee culture with Texan breakfast comfort. The place has a laid-back patio (dog-friendly!), hot drinks, fresh NY bagels flown in from New York, burgers, and the surprising breakfast burrito that has become my favorite. The cafe also has plenty of parking and free Wi‑Fi so if you’re planning to stay and hang out, or work remotely, this place has it all.
🌯 The Breakfast Burrito: Houston-Style Comfort
My Order: The Sausage, Egg & Cheese Burrito ($7.25)
Review: This was an accidental order for us. We usually order bagels but they ran out, and they offered it to be a burrito instead. The breakfast burrito is warm, tightly wrapped, and oozing with melty cheese. The tortilla is soft yet toasty, holding together fluffy scrambled eggs, tasty sausage, and a hit of peppery salsa. It’s surprisingly filling and full of real flavor and it’s super fresh! You can also choose bacon or go vegetarian with just egg and cheese.
Why It's Great:
Fresh, made-to-order quality
Perfect salsa-to-filling ratio
Doesn’t fall apart when you eat it
🥯 Bagels: A Surprisingly Strong Contender
What I Tried: Asiago Bagel with Cream Cheese ($3.50–$5.00 depending on toppings)
La Vita markets itself with fresh bagels that are flown in from New York. How that works, for fresh bagels flown in, I’m not so sure, but their bagels are impressively good—crispy exterior, chewy interior, and not overly doughy. You can build it out with egg, cheese, or bacon for a satisfying sandwich-style bite, or keep it simple with flavored cream cheese.
Other Options Include:
Plain, Everything, or Blueberry bagels
Add-ons: Egg ($1.50), Cheese ($0.75), Bacon or Sausage ($2)
They do bagel sandwiches too starting at $9.
These are great for grab-and-go breakfasts and ideal if you want something lighter than the burrito.
☕ Coffee That Delivers
Their coffee might be a tad expensive than other cafes but it’s really good, strong, and done on the spot. I’ve ordered their mocha, and the owner recommended to try the chai latte with a shot of espresso. This order was around $7.50 but it definitely gave me the caffeine kick and the aroma of the chai was amazing. Some coffee you can order are:
Flat White: $4.50 – Smooth microfoam, rich espresso, perfect ratio
Cortado / Macchiato / Shakerato: $3.50–$6.50
Signature Lattes: Try seasonal favorites like Horchata Latte or Honey Lavender
Cold Brew & Nitro: Ideal for Houston summers
Italian Hot Chocolate: A rich, drinkable dessert
Baristas are friendly and well-trained, and the coffee here always comes out balanced, not too bitter or oversteamed, which is rare for quick-service cafés.
